I’m sitting in my studio as I write this, and all I can think about is how in awe I am. Of course I’m proud of this space and what I’ve been able to do here, but mostly, I’m in awe at the families and babies that have visited me here. Everyone from the silly siblings, tired dads, and beautiful moms - it’s amazing to reflect on the people who have come through my door.
This family was certainly no different at all. I met mom and dad at her maternity session, but didn’t get to see big brother until the newborn session. Big brother is already a teenager, but so in love. It was wonderful to get to photograph a brand new family together, together in photos for the first time. I have a love affair with artwork. All of the premium artwork I offer is heirloom and museum quality - so it will last for generations to come. And that might seem like too much. After all, why would you ever need something to last that long? It’s so much longer than you'll ever need it for.
But that's the thing isn't it... the images aren't just for you. They're for your children too. And your children's children. Because someday when we're long gone, the only thing they'll have left is photographs. They'll want to share what you looked like. How their children shared your smile. How your hair moved when you laughed.
And that's why it's so important the images we create today last. Because someday this album is going to belong to a child, and she's going to share it with her own family. To share where she came from. To share the people who raised her, who loved her. To pass your story down as part of her own.
