Arlington VA Family Photographer | Outdoor Spring Session

Last year I didn't have the opportunity to offer family sessions and I promised myself (and my clients!) that I would do it this year. Since I'm a one-woman show, scheduling sessions to fit everyone in can be tricky, but I'm so incredibly glad that I created dedicated family sessions this Spring. In order to offer the best service to all of my clients, family sessions are offered only a couple times each year, and exclusively to current and previous Kate Juliet Photography clients. I love holding them outdoors so everyone can run around and explore. This is especially great when families have several kiddos, the kids get a chance to around and have a good time when I'm not photographing them. These sessions are so much fun and I just love seeing so many kiddos and babies grow. We run, we play. The kids get dirty, the parents wonder if I'm nuts (I am). It isn't a successful session if someone doesn't get a grass stain somewhere. Let it be known: Playing and being silly is a must during my family sessions.

I photographed baby brother Bruce when he was an ittby bitty newborn baby last year and I can't get over how big he is now. He's walking! And check out his awesome hair! He has become a full-fledged toddler and is such an adorable little guy. He really knew how to ham it up for the camera. Big sisters Amelia and Annie were just as charming as the last time I met them too. Our session was particularly special because it was Amelia's 6th birthday, so the evening ended with cake and a song. We even had a surprise visitor during our session - a frog! Big sister Amelia was a pro with him and so gentle (possible future veterinarian someday?) and helped him hop back home.

Here are some of my favorite images from our session together, enjoy!

Mother and Daughter Springtime Motherhood Photography | Vienna VA Mommy & Me Family Photographer

I am completely in love with mother-daughter springtime sessions. IN LOVE. It's such a wonderful time of year, everything is so green and fresh, it presents the perfect background to photograph a gorgeous mother-daughter duo. I met Kaui and Leila in one of my favorite outdoor locations and just let Leila play and explore. With toddlers I never quite know what I'm in for. Some toddlers are shy and reserved, while others are active and outgoing. I love getting to know such big personalities wrapped up in tiny little bodies, and Leila was no exception. She is so sweet.

Kaui and Leila were a dream to work with. I had such fun with them. Complete naturals in front of the camera and so loving with one another. Kaui is gorgeous and Leila is full of adorableness. Not to mention that she is a complete pro at modeling. They were so wonderful together and their relationship is beautiful. I was so happy to meet both of them.

Here are a few of my favorite images from our Mommy & Me session together, enjoy!

Fairfax VA Intimate Maternity Photographer | Baby Boy on the Way for this Enchanting Mama

This maternity session was tons of fun. Mom was game to let me play and try some new things, and I'm always so excited when I work with clients who are open to experimenting. I love bright and airy outdoor images, but there is something so beautiful about intimate indoor maternity sessions. I absolutely love how the light just wraps around this gorgeous mama, creating something more dramatic and bold. She has the most fantastic glow.

Big brother-to-be Leo joined in on the session too. He was such a riot to play with and loved being the center of attention with his mom. He has the best hair and the cutest smile. And he is oh so sweet. I know when toddlers are going to be part of a session that anything goes and Leo was no exception. At one point he was hanging out in a basket on the floor eating gummy bears to his heart's content while I worked with his mom. I can just see him now, playing with his little brother, getting dirty together, and sharing even more gummy bears between them. These two brothers are going to have a lot of fun together.

I can't wait to share the images from the new baby brother's newborn session, but for now here are some of my favorite images from Sylvette's maternity session. Enjoy!

Baby #2 on the Way | Fairfax, VA Maternity, Newborn, and Child Photographer

Earlier this month I organized a group shoot out with a bunch of wildly fantastic local photographer friends. There will be a whole blog post about it later on, but it was a wonderful way to meet up with other local photographers and have some fun doing what we all love the most: photographing gorgeous mamas!

We all met up in Loudoun County, VA for a maternity & child session at one of my favorite outdoor field locations. Kristen and her handsome little boy Caden joined us as models for the event, and they were beyond charming and lovely to work with. Both of them handled having half a dozen photographers around them like total pro's, you'd think they do it everyday. Kristen is positively glowing during her pregnancy, the light and love just pour right out of her. She was so natural and loving with her little boy and so excited about the baby to come.

Big brother-to-be Caden is almost two years old and I LOVE this age. It's full of exploration and silliness. With toddlers you never quite know what's going to happen next. He was so charming during the session. His grin was infectious and I couldn't help but smile every time he ran off to play with his truck for a few minutes. Caden even deemed me cool enough to give me a few high fives during the session (I'm totally "in" with the toddler crowd).

I will be sharing more behind-the-scenes images from the shoot out later on, but here are some of my favorite images from Kristen's session, enjoy!

Little Brother on the Way | Northern VA Maternity and Newborn Photographer

It's true, this soon-to-be big sister has a little brother on the way!

I had so much fun working with this gorgeous family. They are, quite simply, the best. Since mom was already close to her due date we opted to hold her maternity session indoors so we wouldn't have to worry about the weather, and I'm so happy we did! We had such an incredibly fun time together. We played, we laughed, we got cheerios stuck to our hands (well, at least I did), it was a blast. Working with toddlers is always a treat because they are so big on personality, and big sister-to-be was no exception. She was beyond charming and fun. And those big blue eyes! Guh! It's hard to get more adorable than that.

I always love working in families' homes because it makes the images so personal. Every image is a reflection of you and your life and your home with your family. We get to use your things, in your space. The way you live everyday. Plus it means we can re-visit the same spaces during your newborn session, creating a lovely "before and after" for your family. Before new baby, and after new baby. For families considering an album, it's also a beautiful way to create a cohesive album that flows beautifully from beginning to end.

I can't wait to meet the new baby boy when he makes his debut, but until then here are a few images from our session together - enjoy!
