Abby | Arlington VA Newborn Photographer

I may have gushed over Abby's hair for a good 5 minutes when I first met her. And I may have, during her session, continued to gush over it whenever I happened to notice once again how amazing it was. She is destined for hair model fame. It's undeniable.

Abby was a darling throughout her session (even if she didn't share her secrets for perfect hair with me), and I loved working with her and her parents. I photographed her mom for her maternity session, but this was the first time Dad got in front of my lens and precious Abby loved every second of it.

Suzy | Arlington, VA Newborn Photographer

"Oh Susie Q, baby I love you, Susie Q..."

Her last name may not start with Q, but dear Suzy stole my heart. I had to wait a bit for Suzy's session, so I met her the weekend she turned 4 weeks old. That sweet smile, that gorgeous face, and of course her wonderful parents were so lovely to be around. This little girl has already proven that she has strength beyond measure and grace to go along with it. Exhibit A: That great high kick she showed mom!

Bruce | Newborns

Bruce! Oh my goodness how I loved this little guy. He is the newest addition to one of the loveliest families I've met. From the moment I stepped into their home the kindness was all around. Mom, Dad, two big sisters - 4 & 2 years old - and even hound dog Piper were all so welcoming during the session, I may have joked about moving in and becoming kiddo #4 (I kid, I kid... I would never move in to a client's home.... unless they offer me really yummy cookies or something). Not only was baby Bruce a dreamboat, but Bruce's big sisters were so much fun to photograph. Biggest sister A was my favorite 4 year old for a reason, I think she may have a future as a photographer's assistant, although her modeling skills were spot on too. Both sisters clearly love their little brother and were eager to be part of the session. I simply love their sibling photos together. But of course man of the hour Bruce wasn't going to let his big sisters steal the show. He showed off his cute pout and cuddled up right to his mom and dad during their portraits together. Everyone say it with me now, "Awwwwww......"

Cara | Maternity

Some moms welcome maternity jeans at the 8 week mark (me), other moms rock their pre-pregnancy jeans until the very end. This mama was of the latter category (and rocking those jeans she was). Color me a tiny bit jealous. Her baby girl is gonna have some good genes (and jeans) handed down to her.

Reflections on 2013

To say that 2013 was an eventful year would be an incredible understatement. My entire life was turned upside down mid-June when my son was born and nothing has been the same since. When people ask what it's like to have a baby, I always respond "It's exactly what you always hear it is. It's crazy and exhausting and overwhelming and so incredibly wonderful." Frankly, I should have done it sooner.

My photography grew by leaps and bounds, not just technically, but also my love for it. And my love of it has inspired me to photograph the things I love most. That is, people in love. With their newborns, with their pets, with their significant others. Capturing images of love and joy is what I love to do for all of my clients.

As 2013 comes to a close I can only look back on it all and wonder where all the time went and note how quickly it passed. So much happened, but I can't wait to do more. I'm so thankful to everyone who has supported me in this journey and I can't wait to see what 2014 has in store.
